What if I accidentally erase the software on my 911 Medical ID™ card?

What if I get an error message or the 911 Medical ID™ software does not open properly?

What if I plug the connector into a USB port and nothing happens?

What if my 911 Medical ID™ card stops working?

Is the 911 Medical ID™ card easy to use?

Yes; the beauty of this software is its simplicity. If you can fill out an online form, you can use the 911 Medical ID™ card.

To get started, plug the pop-out flash drive into the USB port on any computer. There is nothing to install; everything is built into the 911 Medical ID™ software. To create your medical profile, simply click on Edit My Medical Profile and enter a password. The software will launch, enabling you to record your health history in the text fields. There is no need to manually save your text; the software saves your data automatically.

Then, the next time you use your 911 Medical ID™ card, you can click on View My Emergency Summary or View My Full Medical Profile from the opening menu screen to see your information in a Read-Only format. This means that no one, not even you, can edit any of your information within these sections; they can only view it. To change or update your medical records, you must click on Edit My Medical Profile and enter your password when prompted. This password protection helps prevent you from becoming a victim of medical identity theft—one of the fastest-growing forms of fraud today. When you are ready to close out of the program, hit the "Exit Software" button at the top of the screen. (Never exit the program by simply closing screen windows.) This will help ensure the program shuts down properly to preserve the integrity of your data.

Click on any tab and easy-to-follow instructions will appear on each opening screen, making data entry simple. There is also a Help screen if you need additional guidance or clarification.

Who needs access to my personal medical profile?

Can I put my EKGs, MRIs, X-rays, and other medical documents and reports on my 911 Medical ID™ card?

Alternatively, you can click on the My Files tab and copy and paste your documents there.

Can I store non-medical documents, pictures, or music on my 911 Medical ID™ card?

Yes. There are a couple of ways to do this:

  1. There are two file groupings under My Files: Protected and Unprotected. You determine how you want to save each file that will be stored here. All protected files are data encrypted and password protected for security reasons. Because files larger than one megabyte take longer to encrypt and unencrypt each time you use them, we suggest that you save all non-confidential files of one megabyte or larger as unprotected.
  2. Adding a file from your computer/documents to the USB flash drive. Decide whether you want to designate your file as Protected or Unprotected. Click "Add File" at the bottom of the screen under the appropriate grouping: "Protected Files" or "Unprotected Files".
  3. Setting up your password. When you click "Add File" under the "Protected Files" grouping you will be prompted to set up your new password, or to enter your password if you have already created one. IMPORTANT: YOU MUST RECORD AND SAVE YOUR PASSWORD. FOR SECURITY REASONS, THERE IS NO WAY TO RECOVER YOUR PASSWORD IF YOU FORGET IT.
  4. Selecting a file. Once you have created or entered your password, a pop-up window will appear. Select the file from your document's library or desktop that you would like to store on the USB device. Once you have selected the file, click the "Open" button under the file name selected on the screen.
  5. Opening a document. Check the box next to the file(s), or double-click on a file you wish to open and then click the "Open" button at the bottom of the page.
  6. Moving Protected Files to Unprotected Files. To move a file from the protected File to the "Unprotected File" grouping, click the check box or double click on the file to select it, then click "Unprotect Checked Files" at the bottom of the screen. This will remove the password protection and data encryption from the selected file.
  7. Moving "Unprotected Files" to "Protected Files". To protect a file that is currently saved in"Unprotected Files," click the check box or double click on the file to select it, then click "Protect Files" at the bottom of the screen. This will make the file password-protected and encrypted.
  8. Deleting a File. Click on the "View All Files" button at the top of the page. Select the file you would like to delete, and push "Delete" on your keyboard. A file that you either add or delete in the View All Files screen will not be added or deleted to the "My Files" area until you close and then re-open "My Files", which refreshes the screen. Simply click on "Return to 911 Medical ID™" and then click on "My Files" to see your updated files.
  9. Reminder: Before you remove your USB flash drive from its port, MAKE SURE THAT YOU HAVE RESET PASSWORD ENCRYPTED PROTECTION. MAKE SURE YOU HAVE CLOSED AND PROTECTED ALL OPEN FILES by clicking on the red "Protect Files" button. Warning! If you pull your USB out of the computer without clicking on the Red "Protect Files" button that appears in the lower right hand corner of your computer screen every time that you unencrypt a Protected file, your file remains unencrypted. Therefore, ALWAYS CLICK ON THE RED "PROTECT FILES" BUTTON BEFORE YOU REMOVE THE CARD.

How do I store private information so no one can access it without my user name and password?

The My Files button gives you the option to password-protect the files that are located in this area of the card only. All files saved in My Files can be password protected so no one can have access to your files unless they have your password.
